Nanofiltration (NF) membranes, with pores at the nanometer scale (close to the size of relatively small ions), are specifically designed to remove viruses from contaminated sources. NF membranes have various applications, with their primary uses being water treatment for drinking water production and wastewater purification. They can also serve as a pretreatment stage for desalination units. NF membranes can remove microorganisms, turbidity, hardness, and part of the dissolved salts.
